It was a whirlwind of trials and tribulations that got me to where I am today. And I contribute a massive amount of my success to purchasing hair from a trusted, tried and true wholesaler. This is because I was able to bring in higher profit margins while still offering luxury quality to my guests.
I stopped ordering from name brand hair companies that charged $500-600 for a half-pack of hair and started looking for other solutions. I needed higher profit margins to make offering extensions worth it for my business.
In 2023 I worked myself into the coaching industry, helping stylists make more money while working less behind the chair. I realized something MAJOR… most stylists are barely making a profit when they upsell hair to their guests. The average I found in my coaching practice was a mere $100 profit off the hair for a new instal and in my opinion, it’s borderline impossible to scale and offer ethical services if your profit margins are so slim.
Many stylists even LOSE money on new installs because of how crazy expensive high quality hair is. And this is beyond unacceptable. You, the artist, should be making high profits AND be able to afford a guarantee on the work you put out.
That’s when I decided if no-one else was going to bring high-end wholesale to the United States, I had to.
To be completely honest with you, ordering hair from big name brands does nothing for your business except lose you money. They are purchasing their hair from a wholesaler like us and re-selling it to stylists for double or triple what they purchase it for.
We’re all for making profits, but our business model is very different. STYX is a wholesale company, but we’ve cut out the middle man. We go direct to consumer and offer very small quantity orders instead of requiring big bulk orders. We sell our hair in small packs because it gives YOU the flexibility to order what you want, when you want.
When marking up the price of the hair to your salon guests, we recommend charging the true value of the hair. You should be charging for your cost, the retail value, and the value of your artistry.
To explain this formula more, I want you to think about the true value for your consumer.
If the value of a new set of 22” extensions using 12 wefts is $1,800, then the value is just that, $1,800. If your cost to purchase the hair used in this service was $1,140 like it could be when purchasing hair from a different supplier, that only leaves $660 remaining to go towards your expertise, the hours it took, the install, etc. That might sound pretty good, but what if it looked more like this…
If you purchased the hair from STYX, and the hair only cost you $600? That leaves $1,200 remaining almost DOUBLING your profit.
This is why we’re here. To give back the power to the stylist. We want the industry as a whole to take steps to level up. Not just bring more money into the industry, but keep more money in the pockets of the artists that are putting in the work behind the chair.
